Do you offer a Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program?

Students must turn 5 between September 2-December 2. Kindergarten age-eligible students are allowed to choose TK if their 5th birthday is between June 1st-September 1st; however, they must sign the Kindergarten Continuance Form verifying that the parent/guardian agrees to have his/her child continue in kindergarten for one additional year. Students may not be promoted directly from TK to 1st grade. For students with their 5th birthday after December 2nd, they must enter TK on or after their 5th birthday. If a student turns 5 after September 1st, entering kindergarten is not an option, they must enroll in TK. To enroll in Kindergarten, students must turn 5 on or before September 1st.

What documents are required?

Excel is free to those who reside within our servicing counties. What documents are required to enroll? - Proof of Residency - Birth Certificate - Immunization Records - Transcripts (High School only) - Oral Health Report Form or waiver (TK, K and 1st Grade only) - Health Exam Form/Waiver (TK, K and 1st Grade only) Translated documents are available upon request.

When can my child start Kindergarten?

Student must turn 5 years old on or before September 1st.

Will I be able to choose what grade level my child will be enrolled in?

Student enrollment is based on your child's date of birth, per the California Department of Education. Unless your child has repeated a grade previously, or has official school district documentation stating why he/she should be retained or advanced, they must be placed in the grade level that their birth date reflects. We cannot adjust a child's grade level based solely on parent request.

I am currently homeless, can I still enroll my kids in Excel, and if so, what do I submit for the Proof of Residency?

Yes, You can definitely still enroll! Please email admissions@excelacademy.education and ask for a copy of the McKinney-Vento form. All you need to do is fill that form out and send it back to us. We will accept it as your Proof of Residency.

can you guarantee enrollment?

No. Enrollment is based on a first come, first served basis, depending on the date a completed application is received and approved AND the space and availability we have of a ToR in your geographic area. A student is officially enrolled when the parent AND student have signed a Master Agreement with a ToR.

My student has an IEP, do you service Special Education students?

Yes. We have a Special Education program, and we provide a variety of services based on a student'sIEP. Students with IEPs cannot participate in independent study unless it is deemed an appropriate instructional placement. The CDE provides explicit rules regarding the admission of students with IEPs into independent study: A. Special education students may not participate in independent study unless it is specified as an instructional method in their individualized education program (IEP). Must I include an original copy of my child's birth certificate?

No, a copy of the original will be sufficient.

Where can I get a copy of my childs immunization records?

You can obtain a copy of immunization records from your child's physician. In most cases, they can email you a copy.

Where do I get the Report of Health Exam filled out?

You may take the form to your child's physician or clinic. The physician will complete and sign the form for you. If you cannot make it to the doctor or choose to waive the exam, you may fill out the waiver portion of this form.

What do I need for proof of residency?

You must provide a current utility bill such as gas, electric or cable. Other acceptable forms of residency include a property tax bill or rental/lease agreement. All items must be dated withing 6 months of the current date.

I live with someone and none of the bills are in my name. How do I show Proof of Residency?

Email our Admissions Lead (admissions@excelacademy.education) for the Shared Residency Affidavit. You can fill out this simple form and turn it in with a copy of the proof of residency from the residence you are residing at.

I registered online, now what?

Your application will be reviewed and verified by our Admissions Department. If there is anything missing or incomplete, you will receive an email explaining specifically what is needed. Once the application is verified and approved, you will receive a Welcome Letter which will contain further information, including dates and times for you to attend a mandatory New Family Orientation Meeting. Your student will not be assigned to a teacher until after you've attended one of these New Family Orientation Meetings. Submitting the application does not constitute automatic enrollment.

Intro to Excel Academy's Field Trips

We are so excited for another wonderful year of field trips with our families! In anticipation of our 2026-27 school year field trips, feel free to review the policies and FAQs below.

Please note that there are some changes to the way our field trips work this year:

Registration will no longer be done through Regpack due to the high volume of glitches our families experienced during the our first round of registrations.
Until further notice, field trip registrations will be done through Survey Monkey. Registration links will be sent through Beehively when registration opens.

Field Trip Policies

By registering for our field trips, you acknowledge and agree to the following:

For students paying with funds, parents must place a PO prior to registering and provide the PO number during registration. In the event that a field trip is full by the time a family completes the registration form, the PO will be canceled. If an accurate PO number is not included on your registration form, your registration may be canceled and we cannot guarantee space for your family on the field trip. Please make sure to follow the proper payment procedures in order to secure your spots!
Both a PO/payment and registration form are required in order to register. For families that place a PO but do not complete the registration form, or complete the registration form without submitting payment, your registration is incomplete and space is not guaranteed.
Each field trip will specify the grade levels it is open to. Field trips are open to students within the specified grade range, their younger non-student siblings (see #6), their siblings who are Excel Academy students, and up to two parents/guardians per family (see #5). Registrations that do not meet these guidelines will be canceled and refunded.
All attendees from your family must be included on your registration form. Space is not guaranteed for anyone not included on your registration form.
Students must be accompanied by a parent/guardian in order to attend our field trips, unless otherwise specified. This parent/guardian must be included on the registration form! If a parent/guardian is not listed on your registration form and the field trip fills up, we may not be able to accommodate your student(s) for the field trip, so please make sure a parent/guardian is included on your registration form. Due to the extremely high demand we're facing with field trips this year, all field trips going forward are limited to ONE adult per family.
The "non-student sibling" option is meant to accommodate parents with younger children who are not yet in school. School-aged siblings (and older) who are not Excel Academy students are not admitted to our field trips. Thank you for your understanding and for keeping our field trip spots available for our students!
Excel Academy does not provide transportation for field trips. Parents/guardians are responsible for transporting their students to and from field trip locations.
We are unable to issue refunds after registration closes. If you need to cancel and registration has not yet closed, please contact Melissa Harvilla at mharvilla@excelacademy.education for a refund!

Field Trip FAQs

How do I sign up for field trips?
- Until further notice, field trip registrations are done through Survey Monkey. It's recommended that you register as soon as registration opens, as many of our field trips fill up very quickly!
Who can attend the field trips?
- Each field trip will specify the grade levels it is open to. Refining our grade ranges allows us to offer a more in-depth field trip experience that more directly addresses the learning standards for those grade levels. Field trips are open to students within the specified grade range, their younger non-student siblings (see below), their siblings who are Excel Academy students not within the specified grade range, and up to two parents/guardians per family.
- For example, there is a field trip that is open to students in grades 3-6, because the field trip material is delivered at a 3-6 grade level and addresses grade 3-6 learning standards. A family with Excel Academy students in grades 3, 5, 7 would like to attend. Since the 3rd and 5th grade students fall within the specified grade range for that field trip, the family (including the student in 7th grade) would be able to register. However, a family with just students in grades K and 2 would not be able to register for this field trip, as none of their students fall within the specified grade range.
- If there is still space available after registration closes, we may at that time open registration to another grade level to fill the remaining spots; however, this is not guaranteed to happen for every field trip, and the decision will be made on a case by case basis throughout the year.
Who qualifies as a "non-student sibling" for the purposes of field trip registration?
- A "non-student sibling" is a younger sibling who is not yet in school (infant/toddler age). Our school field trips are not designed to accommodate siblings who are students outside of Excel Academy (eg. students at a brick and mortar school).
- The exception to this rule is an adult sibling (age 18+ and out of high school) that would be attending the field trip as a parent/guardian. Up to two parents/guardians from each family may be included on your registration form.
How can I verify that I'm registered for a field trip?
- On the last page of the registration form, you will be able to request a copy of your form to be sent to you. We strongly recommend that everyone select this option so you can refer back to it as needed! After registration closes, all registered attendees will receive another email confirmation from our Excel Academy team.
How do I pay for field trips?
- For students, you have the option to use their instructional funds or pay out of pocket. You will indicate your payment preference when you register. If you choose to use instructional funds, you will need to place the PO prior to registering and include the PO number on the registration form. Click here to see how to place a PO: Placing an Order for Field Trips. If an invalid PO number is entered, your registration may be canceled. If you choose to pay out of pocket, you will be charged through Regpack at the time of registration.
- For parents/guardians and non-student siblings, you will be charged through Regpack at the time of registration.
When will I receive details and permission slips for the field trip I've registered for?
- 1-2 weeks prior to the field trip, you will receive an email with all of the details for that field trip (check-in time, address, permission slips, etc.).
How many field trips will Excel Academy have this year?
- For the 2026-27 school year, we will be organizing 4-6 field trips per month. Each grade level will have at least two field trips per month open to them.
Are there any overnight field trips for Excel Academy students?
- We are so excited to host three overnight camps for our students again this year! In the fall, we offer a Pali Institute Overnight Science Camp for grades 5-8, and another for grades 9-12. In the spring, we offer a Catalina Island Marine Institute (CIMI) trip for grades 9-12. Keep an eye out for information about these opportunities in the coming months!
